There's Mold In My Home - Now What??

Having a home means the happiness that comes with a place you can cherish and share memories in.  It also means that you have the responsibility of making sure your home is safe to live in – and there is a lurking menace that can threaten that peace and sanctity.  Mold is something that many households have experienced, and has had many bothersome qualities for both the surfaces it touches and the people who come in close contact with it.  A moldy home is a home prone to more likely bouts of illness due to the contaminants carried in mold – and some mold can be downright dangerous.  This is why it is imperative that if you have a mold issue, you address the situation immediately and take it very seriously.

If you’ve got mold in your house, there’s an increased chance you’ll feel it affecting your health or that of someone else in your home.  Some symptoms of possible mold exposure include coughing, sneezing, watery eyes, and irritations to your nose, throat, or skin, among other issues.  In some cases, you could be harboring mold that is toxic in nature and can leave you vulnerable to more serious illnesses.  This mold – known as black mold – could threaten you if you do not figure out how to rid your home of the problem.

Solutions to your mold problem begin with tests and diagnoses of the situation.  A trained, qualified professional can tell you whether or not your home is affected with mold.  If it is determined you have it, then the process of getting rid of it can get underway.  First, you must allow the pros to do their jobs, as they are qualified to handle the problem.  Be sure they are taking the right steps to clean your home – but remain distant from the work areas, as the cleaning crew must take their own precautions in eliminating potentially hazardous mold.  Cleaning tools may include wet vacuum cleaners, dry wipe, and HEPA cleaners.  Remember that not all mold may disappear, as spores can still exist in the air and in dust within the home.

There is also the issue of cases where you may purchase a home or rent an apartment where there is mold, and landlords or previous tenants/homeowners were negligent.  If this happens, get pictures of the mold in the home, and contact an attorney to see what options are available.

Mold is a huge burden to have, and to clean – but the risks far outweigh the burdens…so get your mold diagnosed and removed immediately.
